ELVES CIC is proud to provide opportunities to anyone who wants to take a role within our organisation. We pride ourselves on the ethos that we are a 'tribe' of ethically, socially and environmentally conscious minded people of all backgrounds, abilities and experiences who can gain a huge amount from working together and learning from each other.

We offer volunteer opportunities and work experience for people 14+ years old with support and mentoring to find a suitable role for the individual. Whether you are looking to gain skills towards employability, discover and trial aspects of befriending from an office or outdoors, or continue working within our own growing team.

Opportunities:

  • Gardening Assistance (Befriending Garden Support)

A helping hand in the garden can make a huge difference - especially when it comes with a friendly face and a chat.

Our Garden Assistance Service offers light gardening support alongside social connection, helping people who may be isolated, unwell, or struggling to keep on top of their outdoor space. It’s about more than tidying up - it’s about wellbeing, dignity, and staying connected.

What’s involved?

  • Friendly gardening visits with time to chat
  • Helping people stay independent at home
  • Supporting mental health and wellbeing
  • Opportunities for volunteers to gain skills and move into paid work
  • Be Someone’s Sunshine in 2026 (Befriending Phone Calls)

A friendly conversation can mean the world to someone feeling lonely and it only takes a little time to make a big difference!

We’re looking for volunteers to join our Sunshine Service, a telephone befriending service helping to reduce loneliness across Dumfries and Galloway.

What’s involved?
  • Regular friendly chats
  • Supporting your local community
  • Making a real difference
  • Training in befriending
